Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of children living in South Florida ?
Meet Dillion, 14 years
The Little Treasures team, PIC program, and CFK have helped our family in so many different ways. Before they came into our lives, my life was often filled with boredom and loneliness. However, the introduction of this team has helped to bring purpose and many new meaningful relationships into my life. I have developed a new type of confidence and pride in my ability to achieve accomplishments I didn’t even know I was capable of. Through the use of support from the music therapist and the child life professional, I have discovered my ability to write music and paint with my mouth. These activities have changed my life in such a positive way because they are cheerful, colorful, calming, fun, and allow me the opportunity to use my imagination despite my physical limitations. As a quadriplegic, I never dreamed I would be able to do something like painting but this program has helped me to discover this new talent of mine. What’s even cooler is that they help to spread my story throughout the local community and at the state level by showing my artwork at conferences. I have been searching for some time now for my career and my purpose and this team has journeyed with me, helping me to learn and discover it. It makes me feel so proud and happy.
The Little Treasures team has also assists with all of my medical supplies needs; they advocated and assisted us in our long battle to get my new mattress and hospital bed approved, which we’ve been working to get for years. This new bed is going to improve my comfort level so much. Most recently they did a raffle with one of my paintings to help raise money to make my dream come true which was to get a Macbook Pro laptop computer. Having this computer helps me and motivates me to get my school work completed, which is important. It also brings so much fun and joy to my life. Because I am bound to my bed for the majority of my waking hours, I don’t often get to see and experience the world. This computer provides me an opportunity to do that while helping to reduce the amount of boredom I often experience.
On the financial side, CFK has helped my family in such incredible ways. They have assisted with us with getting the A/C fixed in our van and also getting new tires on it. This is so important because this van is how I get to and from my doctor visits and it also provides me the opportunity to sometimes get out and see the world. They have assisted with gift cards for gas and groceries, which are sometimes difficult for my family to afford. Often times my mom can’t work because my nurses don’t show up and my mom has to be my nurse, assuring that I get my medicines and nutrition all throughout the day and night. CFK also helps to take care of us by sometimes providing a gift card for my mom to go get a massage and essential oils to help reduce stress. It is important that my mom stays healthy so she can take care of me. Lastly, CFK helped to provide the funds for me to get Apple TV, which is a device that helps to improve my quality of life. It gives me the opportunity to engage and interact with my nurses and family in a technologically advanced way. Also, its fun. J
I am so grateful that all of these people have come into our lives. It has been so much fun working with everyone and receiving the great care they provide. I can’t imagine how different my life would be right now without the emotional, financial, medical, and spiritual care that they offer. Little Treasures and CFK rock!
